“Break Out of Boring”; Performances with Purpose

2024 Spring Event Season has been a true joy so far … and a big part of what puts smiles on our faces is when our events ‘break out of boring”! Events have a traditional format: the stage program begins and it’s speech, speech, speech, speech, perhaps a short video and then a call to action ... yes, it’s safe and easy … but is there a better way?

Today, let’s explore how you can bring deeper meaning to your event by incorporating artists into the program. Mainstream event planners will often employ performers as party entertainment, to highlight the event theme or bring energy to the space. (Which can be fun!) But at Synchronicity, we set ourselves apart in the industry by taking things one step deeper, working with artists with a truly meaningful connection to the event’s purpose.

Artists are uniquely able to -

  • articulate the organization’s mission and purpose

  • resonate with specific cultural traditions

  • create a deeper sense of connection and belonging

  • celebrate a specific community

  • and of course, infuse the event with artistry and beauty!

At Synchronicity, we have the privilege of working collaboratively with our clients as they work with the most authentic and relevant artists for their needs, and we find ourselves beaming with pride again and again as truly remarkable and purposeful performances unfold onstage.

Below are some highlights of recent Spring 2024 events where the performers were perfectly matched to the organization’s mission, and the results were jaw-dropping (seriously, goosebumps y’all).

API Chaya

API Chaya’s “Family Reunion” gala featured performers representing Asian and Pacific Islander cultures, including  Huraiti Mana, a multi-generational group of performers who offered powerful songs and dances based in Tahitian traditions. The director also spoke briefly, sharing that she and her performers are steadfast in their support of API Chaya, as they are passionate about the organization’s work to protect and uplift survivors of domestic abuse and human trafficking.

King County Library System Foundation

At King County Library System Foundation’s Literary Lions Gala, Washington State poet and one of this night’s special honorees (or ‘Literary Lions’) Sasha taqwšəblu LaPointe read her poem, “Cedar Woven Dress” and received rousing applause. Her poem, exploring her relationships with her ancestors in the Upper Skagit and Nooksack Indian Tribes, shone with vulnerability and resonance. Sasha’s powerful artistry provided the perfect note to begin a gala focused on funding local libraries!

Henry Art Gallery

At the Henry Art Gallery “Shifting Perspectives” Gala, the dance company Co- activated the gala spaces. The Henry’s mission is to present and support bold, contemporary art, and local dance collective Co- was a perfect match, bringing dynamic, edgy movement-based performance art and unexpected interactions throughout the event. In this photo, dancer Tariq Mitri warmed up the dance floor.

Landesa

Landesa secures land rights for women and families around the globe, and works in several African countries including Liberia. We brought in Gansango Music and Dance to infuse Landesa’s “Seed the Change” annual celebration with West African rhythms and aesthetics. Their performance brought the audience into a shared rhythm, and reminded us of the night’s purpose to help those in faraway lands live empowered, thriving lives.
